Transatlantic charity initiative

The Transatlantic Bears represent more than just a single artistic work. BEAR.1 and BEAR.2 are two identical sculptures that form a permanent pair on two continents – serving as a visible symbol of the dialogue between Canada and Europe.

Art as a starting point
BEAR.1 remains in the artist’s possession and is permanently installed in Canada. A permanent home is being sought for BEAR.2. Anyone who purchases the sculpture for this purpose will be laying the foundations for a German-Canadian charity initiative that facilitates encounters, exchange and personal experiences across cultural and geographical boundaries.

The focus of the initiative is the promotion of exchange programs for young people. They should be given the opportunity to

spend time in the other country
get to know different realities of life
broaden their horizons
and build personal connections

This is not about isolated encounters, but about experiences that have a lasting impact – academically, culturally and personally.

Take responsibility

The second Transatlantic Bear offers art patrons, companies, foundations and institutional stakeholders the opportunity to take on responsibility beyond simply commissioning a work of art. This makes a contribution that goes beyond cultural representation and has a lasting impact. BEAR.2 is currently located in Friedrichsdorf/Germany – a temporary stopover until it reaches its final destination. Arrangements for the transport and installation of the sculpture will be made in consultation with the new owner. The programme and organisation of the exchange are being handled by experienced partners.
